When we consider our government’s renewed dedication to helping the poor and suffering of the world, I would urge our understanding
of some basic spiritual and psychological notions.
According to both Hebrew and Christian testaments, God favors the poor in spirit, rights, and material goods.
If people or nations fail to recognize this, and do not do what they can to alleviate the suffering of the poor, God turns his face away from those acting in such manner.
When someone says let’s just take care of our own, they are being selfish. This is a concept taught by all great spiritual leaders, no matter their religion
Not only is such thinking ungodly, but it goes against good sense.
Terrorists sprout up and take over when people feel pushed into desperation.
By helping others, we are doing God’s will. And we are helping ourselves.
